About BGP & ASN Intelligence
What is this tool?
The BGP & ASN Intelligence tool provides deep visibility into Internet routing. It allows you to query an Autonomous System Number (ASN), an IP address, or a specific BGP prefix (CIDR) to understand how it is announced to the global internet.
It returns information on the organization that owns the ASN, their country of operation, the full BGP AS Path (showing how traffic gets from tier-1 providers to the destination), and a list of upstream and downstream peer networks.
How to use
- Select your desired lookup type: IP, ASN, or Prefix.
- Enter the query (e.g.,
AS15169for Google or8.8.8.0/24) and click Lookup. - Review the "ASN Information" card to see who legally owns the IP space.
- Examine the "BGP Route Information" to verify if the prefix is actively announced on the internet and view its upstream transit providers.
Why is it important?
Understanding BGP routing is critical for network engineers diagnosing connectivity issues and security analysts hunting cyber threats.
- Network Troubleshooting: Identify routing loops, misconfigurations, or suboptimal AS paths that are causing high latency to your servers.
- Security & Threat Intelligence: Discover if your IP prefixes are being hijacked by malicious ASNs (BGP Hijacking), a common tactic used to intercept traffic.
- Infrastructure Mapping: Trace the upstream providers of a competitor or a target to understand their network dependencies.
